1. How does this church work?
SunWest Christian Fellowship was begun for the intent purpose of "guiding people into an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ". In order to see that dream become a reality in people's lives we focus our weekend services to present the timeless truth of Christianity in a way that impacts people in their "everyday" lives. No matter where you are, on your spiritual journey, you can grow in your understanding of what it means to be a Christ-follower at these services. In addition, we have a monthly midweek service (DeepStream) that is designed for people who wish to develop their relationship with Christ through extended worship, communion, and in-depth Bible teaching. An extensive network of small groups, that meet in homes, throughout the community also help foster relationships and spiritual growth.
2. What should I wear to church?
Casual clothes are the norm at SunWest. Wear whatever is comfortable for you!
3. How long will the service last?
The weekend services at SunWest typically last one hour and fifteen minutes while DeepStream is one and a half hours.
4. What will the service be like?
On weekends drama, multi-media, contemporary music and practical messages will be elements of your experience. There will be some participatory singing during the service. You are free to engage as fully as you are comfortable.
5. Will I need to say, sign or give anything?
At SunWest you will never be put on the spot. As a guest you won't be asked to give money or "register" your attendance (unless you place your child in our children's program -- for your child's security, we'll need to get some basic information). While there are several opportunities to receive more information about SunWest, your participation is at your discretion. Our hope is that you will let the service be our gift to you and that you'll know we're here to serve you.
6. What about my kids -- do they come into the service with me or is there something going on for them?
Our children's ministry, SunWest Kids, provides an engaging and educational experience for infants, toddlers and kids through grade five. This allows you to receive the most from your experience at SunWest while your child is receiving high levels of care, attention, teaching -- and fun! Need more info? Contact Pastor Jeff Marshall.
Grade 6 - 12 students enjoy SunWest's Youth Church that is designed just for them. Opportunities include age relatable worship, teaching, small groups and events. Please contact the Pastor Drew Johnson (Jr High) or Pastor Matt Dyck (Sr High) for more info. They'd love to tell you all about the Youth Programs at SunWest!
7. Is this a Christian church . . . or something else?
Though non-traditional in style, SunWest Christian Fellowship is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. Our vision is simple: to guide people into an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ. That vision is rooted in the doctrine and tradition of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches of which SunWest is a member.
8. What are SunWest's core values?
The practical expression of SunWest's vision is shaped by our core values. We believe that:
1. God wants a personal relationship with all people.
2. Life change happens best in community.
3. Authentic worship pleases the Father and changes us.
4. Christ is honored when we discern our spiritual gifts and serve others.
5. Prayer expresses our dependency on God.
6. Our time, energy and resources belong to God.
7. Giving our best honors God.
8. God calls us to be relevant to this world.
